Gianni Berengo Gardin's exhibition in Otranto Events
Gianni Berengo Gardin is the photographer who perhaps most of all has told about our time and our country in the last fifty years. His life and his work constitute a choice of field, clear and defined: photographer of documentation always, in the round and completely. For him, being a photographer means taking on the role of observer and choosing an attitude of participating listening in the face of reality, as the great authors of 20th century documentation did.
This exhibition traces his long career, shows his main reportages, exhibits alongside the famous images other little seen, even unpublished images and offers new interpretations to understand his work and, through this, the role of conscious vision of reality that a "real photograph" can offer of the last fifty years. The exhibition presents a choice of 85 of the most famous photographs by Gianni Berengo Gardin. By observing his photographs as possible traces, we build a complex and fascinating map of many possible paths, rediscovering the emotions that those images generated. These are paths that we sometimes know but that can branch out into new paths and reveal other detours, sometimes unexpected. Following them means leaving always, every time, for a new journey.
